Animal Kingdom Updates

I promised you updates as the construction continues in Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.  Two new shops have opened since my last update and I highly recommend you check them out.

Starbucks has opened in Creature Comforts. I think this is my favorite of the 4 that they have in the parks.  I love the theming here. It also didn’t feel as cramped while you are waiting in line. The drink menu is the same as the other theme park locations.

The second shop to open is the Zuri’s Sweets Shop in the new Harambe Market.  It is next to the Mombasa Marketplace; there is an access door inside the Mombasa Marketplace and one door outside.  You can walk right out into the Harambe Market with your purchases. We were there to check out the store and try some of the new items from the Sweets case.  We were interested in the Match the Species Treats. The snacks are made to look like the poop (yes, poop) of 4 different animals at Animal Kingdom. When I talk about these snacks people just start laughing or giggling but they are quite tasty.  It’s nice to know that Disney still has a sense of humor.  We tried the Giraffe Poop and the Hippo Poop. Don’t laugh but they taste better if you let them warm up a little outside before you eat them. They do have a chart in the store that tells you the ingredients of these snacks. Giraffe Poop is made of rolled chocolate fudge brownie and freshly made caramel. The Hippo Poop  is made with chocolate fudge caramel brownie with peanut butter and rolled oats. The Cotton Top Tamarin Poop contains pretzel pearls coated in chocolate peanut butter fudge with sweet rolled oat flakes.  The Elephant Poop contains chocolate peanut butter fudge with sweet rolled oats and yellow coconut flakes. The cost for each treat is $3.99 and they are considered a snack on the Disney Dining plan. We enjoyed these treats and were glad that they now have some new offerings in Animal Kingdom. I would recommend having lunch from one of the quick service counters in Harambe Market and coming back for a sweet treat from Zuri’s Sweets Shop.

*Note – the Match the Species desserts were actually removed from Animal Kingdom the day this article was posted and are no longer available.  There was no official reason given for their removal.

Once we explored the new shops we decided to take in a favorite show, Festival of the Lion King.  I suggest seeing this show if you have never seen it or you saw it in its old location. This show is Broadway quality and is pure Disney for me. When I hear people argue about the price of theme park tickets I like to remind them of the shows that are included in the price of the ticket. There are plenty of seats and the air conditioning was heavenly while we were entertained. We did not have FastPasses and used the standby line. If you are in Animal Kingdom take a little time to enjoy this show.

‘Til next time! See you in the parks!
