‘Maleficent’ Sequel Adds Ed Skrein as Villain

The core cast of the newest Maleficent film has just been rounded out with the addition of Ed Skrein, who will portray a villain opposite Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning. This is not Skrein’s first antagonistic role, as he is most well known for his role in Deadpool, working against the titular character as the villain Ajax (Francis).

Skrein is also recognizable for his work on Game of Thrones as Dario Naharis.

The film, which is expected to begin production in 2018, will be directed by Joachim Ronning; Ronning is notable for the recent Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Jez Butterworth and Linda Woolverton are handling the newest version of the script, with the most recent draft having been penned by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.

The sequel’s plot is still anyone’s guess, as the first one centered around a retelling of Sleeping Beauty and no details have been given as to what direction the characters will go from here. Maleficent brought in $758.5 million worldwide.
