Missing Disney? 5 Tips to Spark the Magic at Home

Hey Disney friends. When things in my life start to get difficult, I tend to turn to Disney. It has become such a constant source of joy in my life, offering a wonderful way to shelve life’s problems for a little while and replace them with a sense of delight, nostalgia, and connection. At the moment, that is exactly what I need, so I’ve been pulling out all of my tricks to bring some of that happiness into my home before my next visit. I’ve written before about how much the sights, sounds, and scents of Disney can transport us, and sometimes it really is the simplest things that bring those feelings rushing back. Here are five ways you can spark those pixie-dusted feels at home if you’re missing Disney.

Set the Scene With Music

There is something about that first moment walking through the gates, when the music hits, and your heart seems to swell just a little. Well, who says that feeling has to stay at the parks? Pull up some of your favorite Disney Parks background music on your phone and let it drift through the house. Play it while you’re making breakfast, working around the house, or enjoying your morning coffee. You might be surprised how quickly those familiar sounds can transport you somewhere else.

Light a Candle and Take a Trip Through Your Senses

I’ve always been a big believer in the power of scent when it comes to Disney memories. There are so many park and character-inspired candles and room scents available now, so choose a few that remind you of your favorite Disney places and start adding them around your home. A familiar scent wafting through the hallway or greeting you when you walk into a room can instantly bring back memories of a favorite resort, attraction or vacation. Sometimes, a little sniff of pixie dust is all you need.

Have a Disney Family Movie Night

Sometimes the best way to step away from the world for a few hours is with a good movie and the people you love. Pick a brand-new Disney release or revisit an old favorite that you haven’t watched in years, then make the occasion feel a little more special with themed snacks and drinks. Put the phones away, get comfortable and enjoy some proper family time. Disney has always been about storytelling and connection, and you don’t need a park ticket for either of those things.

Add Little Touches of Disney Around Your Home

You don’t need to turn your house into Cinderella Castle to bring a little Disney magic home. Sometimes it’s the smallest details that make the biggest difference. For me, that might mean looking at my wall of Minnie Mouse Ears or my collection of Castle photos. A Disney pillow on the couch, a special piece of homeware on the kitchen counter, or a favorite piece of artwork on the wall can give you that little spark of happiness every time you see it. These are the things that become part of your everyday surroundings, quietly reminding you of the places and memories you love.

Start Planning Your Next Disney Trip

And finally, we have the ultimate source of Disney magic: planning the next trip! There is something wonderfully exciting about opening up the calendar, looking at potential dates (even if they are years away!) and starting to dream about where you’ll stay, what you’ll eat and which attractions you absolutely cannot miss. Even if your next visit feels a long way away, having something magical on the horizon can make the waiting a whole lot easier. Disney magic doesn’t have to disappear just because you’ve left the parks. Sometimes it is sitting right there in your favorite song, a familiar scent, an old movie, a treasured piece of merch or a new vacation countdown. So, if you’re missing Disney right now, try bringing a little of that magic home. It might be just what you need.
