With the last two days of Thanksgiving now behind us, I’m thinking that most of us have done just about all the cooking we intend to do for a little while. This is the glorious period in my household when everyone is living off leftovers and bits and pieces they make themselves while I take a day or two off from the kitchen! With that in mind, it seemed only right that this week’s Saturday Cooking Sesh be low-key and not require anything to do with an oven!
Today, we are looking at two Disney drink recipes from D23 that will help you unwind this weekend. The first is for those of you in those cooler climates looking for something warm to enjoy, and the second is the Red-Nosed Zebra from Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at Disneyland Hotel. I’m looking forward to sipping this one as I put up my Christmas decorations this afternoon!
Hot Spiced Apple Cider
Ingredients:
- 16 oz. quality apple cider
- ½ tsp. cinnamon
- ½ tsp. whole allspice
- ¹/8 tsp. whole cloves
- ¹/8 tsp. nutmeg
- ½ orange, cut into small pieces
- 2 tbsp. packed brown sugar
- Sliced apple and orange, for garnish
- Whole cinnamon stick, for garnish
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan, and simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes. Pour through a fine strainer into a heat-proof glass and garnish.
Red-Nosed Zebra From Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at Disneyland Hotel
Ingredients:
- 1.5 ounces Bacardi 8 rum
- 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce agave nectar
- 1 ounce strawberry purée
- Crushed ice, 3 cranberries, 2 mint sprigs, for garnish
Preparation:
1. Add all ingredients in a Boston Shaker (except garnish), fill half full with ice, and shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
2. Strain into a margarita glass filled with ice. Garnish with a mound of crushed ice, cranberries, and mint sprigs to look like 2 green antlers, cranberries for eyes and nose.
Give one of these drinks a try, and let us know what you think!
