LEGO and Star Wars fans will soon have a whole new way to play in a galaxy far, far away. A new interactive platform, LEGO SMART Play, was officially announced, promising to bring LEGO brick-built creations to life like never before, starting with an all-new lineup of Star Wars building sets.

Revealed during the Consumer Electronics Show, LEGO SMART Play represents one of the biggest leaps forward in LEGO play innovation in decades. According to LEGO, this marks the most significant evolution in the LEGO System-in-Play since the debut of the LEGO Minifigure in 1978.

At the center of the new platform is the LEGO SMART Brick, a specially designed piece powered by a custom-made chip smaller than a standard LEGO stud. When paired with LEGO SMART Tags and LEGO SMART Minifigures, the system allows builds to react in real time based on how they are played with. The result is an experience that extends well beyond traditional brick building and into interactive storytelling.
The first LEGO sets to use this technology will come from the ever-popular Star Wars universe. Three all-in-one SMART Play sets are set to launch: Luke’s Red Five X-Wing, Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, and Throne Room Duel & A-Wing. Each set includes a LEGO SMART Brick with a charger, along with at least one SMART Minifigure and SMART Tag.

For the first time in LEGO Star Wars history, these sets unlock iconic Star Wars sounds during play. Fans can hear lightsaber hums from Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, engine effects from the A-wing, and even The Imperial March when Emperor Palpatine takes his place on the throne.

The LEGO Star Wars SMART Play sets are scheduled to launch on March 1, 2026, and will be available on DisneyStore.com and in select markets. For builders and Star Wars fans alike, this new technology offers a fresh way to interact with some of the saga’s most iconic ships and characters.
