The Magic of Disney Animation officially opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios this morning, and naturally, there is brand-new merchandise to go along with it! We’re inside checking everything out, and we thought we’d share a peek at the new collection that arrived with the attraction’s grand opening.
There’s quite a bit here, with much of the collection leaning into classic Disney animation artwork and model sheets. We love that the designs celebrate Walt Disney Animation Studios and the artists and characters behind some of our favorite films.
One of the standouts is a new pair of Disney Animation Mickey ears, covered in blue sketch-style artwork featuring characters from films including Lady and the Tramp, Pinocchio, Dumbo, and more. Sorcerer Mickey appears on one ear as well, and the same animation-inspired artwork continues across the headband. These new ears are priced at $36.99.
You’ll find plenty more of that artwork throughout the entire collection. A white Disney Ink & Paint shirt features Sorcerer Mickey surrounded by character sketches and animator notes, while a cozy-looking throw has that same hand-drawn pattern for $49.99.
We also spotted a colorful Walt Disney World backpack featuring animated characters including Mickey, Pinocchio, Donald Duck, and others, along with matching drinkware.
And speaking of drinkware, I may have found one of my favorites. There are new white ceramic mugs covered with different drawings of Sorcerer Mickey, complete with a bright blue interior. Between those and the enormous Sorcerer Mickey hat sitting nearby, this merchandise display is giving me some serious old-school Hollywood Studios feelings.
Disney Pin Collectors, You’re in Trouble
There are several new pins celebrating The Magic of Disney Animation, including one featuring Olaf Draws! and a limited-release design with Mickey and Minnie running in front of the attraction’s unmistakable Sorcerer Mickey hat. But then there’s the BIG one.
A gorgeous oversized limited-edition pin features an entire crowd of Disney Animation characters spilling out in front of the new attraction for $99.99. Mickey and Minnie are front and center, surrounded by Stitch, Olaf, Baymax, Mulan, Rapunzel, Moana, Dumbo, Tiana, Chip ‘n’ Dale, and many more. It comes presented like a Disney animator’s model sheet and looks more like a collectible display piece than your typical park pin.
Four new collectible medallions were also created especially for The Magic of Disney Animation, featuring Mickey and Minnie, Stitch, Genie, and Ariel with Flounder. The reverse side features The Magic of Disney Animation logo, and the designs come in a mix of gold and silver finishes.
You can pick up one medallion for $10 or all four for $35, which feels like Disney very politely saying, “You know you’re going to want the whole set.” These are such a fun little opening-day keepsake, especially with the characters representing different eras of Disney animation.
With The Magic of Disney Animation now officially open, I love that Disney created merchandise that actually feels connected to what this new area is celebrating. The sketches, model-sheet details, Sorcerer Mickey references, and huge mix of animated characters give the collection some personality beyond simply saying “Disney’s Hollywood Studios” on everything.
And judging by the sheer quantity of those pins Corey found this morning, Disney knew exactly which crowd was going to come running on opening day.
