Vintage Disney Shopping: Chloe’s Treasure Thursday

Hey howdy hey! Welcome to another curated list of vintage goodies from yours truly! While we’re counting down to our next vacation, let’s take a breather and check out some more vintage Disney goodness. One of my personal favorite vintage things to collect is a metal lunchbox. Each side features beautiful artwork straight from favorite films, TV shows, or destinations. The wear on these from years of love give them more personalityespecially if you can find one with a name scribbled inside!

They make for great storage containers which double as a fun display piece on a shelf. I have a growing and growing collection, utilizing them for jewelry, ephemera, stickers or stationery storage, and I’ve fashioned them as purses from time to time.

If you’d like to join my club, I’ve compiled a few of my favorite vintage lunch boxes that are currently available on eBay, in good condition for some decent prices. Let’s dive in and jump back!

First, this 1960s round-top metal lunchbox is one of those classic Disneyana pieces every fan should have. Each side of the school bus lunch box is filled with Disney characters, including Dumbo, Thumper, Bambi, Jiminy Cricket, Alice and many more. And with Goofy at the wheel, what could possibly go wrong? Where have I heard that before? I just love how the bottom of the box is printed as the underside of the bus, too!

To all who [pack this happy little lunchbox], welcome. The ultimate 1957 Disneyland souvenir? This. Sleeping Beauty Castle on one side, the Congo Queen gliding down a colorful creature-filled Jungle Cruise scene on the other. The sides feature artworks of other lands like Tomorrowland. This is a cute place to keep all of your vintage Disney paper goods, like tickets, maps, and postcards!

It wouldn’t be a trip to Magic Kingdom without a souvenir of some sort. Imagine if Walt Disney World still made park-specific metal lunchboxes? This 1979 one features plenty of iconic MK attractions; including our gothic Haunted Mansion, a character-filled Space Mountain rocket, bathing Elephants, and a pirate aiming his gun at Mickey, Donald, or Pluto…wait, what? This listing also includes the matching thermos, featuring Cinderella Castle, Space Mountain, Mickey Mouse, and the Gravedigger.

Who, MOI? In SPACE? It’s a pig’s world and we’re just living in it. Do you remember watching the Pigs in Space sketches on The Muppet Show? They were mostly parodies of Star Trek, but I love toting this one around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Tres chic.

We’re still in the middle of Star Wars season, so I couldn’t help myself in featuring a piece of its merch history long before Disney acquired the rights. Amongst the The Return of the Jedi scenes depicted here, you’ve got Luke Skywalker, Vader, Wicket, Jabba the Hutt, Lando Calrissian, and Max Rebo. These are tougher to find without one side being completely rusted out or sun-faded. May the force be with you.
