You’ve just booked your vacation to Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort and you’re so excited! You decided to make your booking a package, which included theme park tickets and the Disney Dining Plan. Now all that’s left to do is to begin making your plans.
Let’s say that Disney releases a discount after you’ve booked your trip and paid your deposit. Now what? Did you know that you can absolutely take advantage of it? It’s important to be aware that discounts are always subject to availability, but if you think one may apply to you, it never hurts to ask. People often ask why they can see availability at certain resorts when they do a search, but it’s not available when searching for the discounted rate. Typically, the availability that’s showing is for guests booking at full price with no discount (aka rack rate).
Something many folks don’t know is that Disney keeps its room inventories separated. They have one inventory of rooms for full price, then another for this discount, and another for that discount. You may see mention of “discount codes” – those codes tell Disney’s booking engines which room inventory it should be checking.
When Disney releases a discount, they take a certain number of rooms to create a whole new inventory for that specific discount. Once they’ve sold that discounted inventory, it’s usually gone. They can add more to it, or other guests can cancel, which creates additional inventory.
It’s always worth checking back to see if any new discounts have been announced. If a new discount is released, Disney does not automatically apply it to your reservation. You have to watch for a discount and act on it. If you see one released, you must make a call to Disney and ask them to see if the discount can be applied to your existing reservation.
