After the success of Disney’s live-action remake of the classic animated title, Aladdin, it was only a matter of time before a sequel was in the works. However, a number of hurdles stood in the way of the project, including a question mark over the involvement of director Guy Ritchie, and an uncertain path forward for Will Smith after a controversial act at the 2022 Oscars ceremony.
While the entire cast might not yet be confirmed, IMDB has officially credited stars Naomi Scott and Mena Massoud, as well as director Guy Ritchie. The listing makes no mention of Will Smith, though several internet sources are reporting that Smith has signed on to reprise his role as Genie, along with rumors that his role will be bigger than ever.
The Aladdin 2 project is currently in pre-production and has an estimated arrival date of May 23, 2025.
