If you’re anything like me then you’re probably starting to lose your mind being stuck at home so much during this period of self-isolation. I have plenty of work to keep me occupied and I’ve been spending a lot of time reading, walking my dogs, and ingesting as much media as I can possibly consume without my brain going to mush. A lot of what I’ve been watching has been on Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, and other streaming services, but I’ve also been scouring YouTube for entertainment. There’s plenty – trust me.
If you don’t actually know who I am, my name is Craig and I’m the Producer of the DIS Unplugged and Multimedia Content for the DIS. I’m going to use this as a daily update to not only let you know what videos we have available on our channel, but also to provide some insight into what I’m watching that isn’t on our channels. If you’re not subscribed to The DIS or DIS Unplugged on YouTube, please make sure to do so for the latest Disney videos!
What You Missed Over the Weekend
This past weekend, we released multiple over on our DIS Unplugged Channel. The first actually happened on Friday night. My wife and I decided to do a Fireworks Friday live video where we watched the video I shot of the final showing of Wishes and I provided commentary during the video and then we answered questions from the live chat for about 30 minutes. It was a fun time and could end up being a weekly thing for the time being.
On Saturday afternoon, Pete and I did a special live question and answer session that was very impromptu and ended up being a lot of fun. Pete spends a lot of time answering questions that would actually help people plan out their vacations, while I spent most of my time answering fluff questions and spending too much time talking about my favorite tiki mug.
On Sunday, we released our weekly episode of the DIS Unplugged: Universal Edition. This week, we updated everyone on Universal extending their closure through April 19. We also answered a bunch of questions from our YouTube comments over the past couple weeks. Nothing really fun to report about the making of this episode, except I had issues with the upload so it didn’t even go live until like 4 am on Sunday night/Monday morning and I HATE when that happens.
Also on Sunday, Pete and Dreams Unlimited Travel agent Elaine Edwards went live to discuss Walt Disney World’s free dining offer to those who cancelled their vacations due to the park’s closure. The free dining offer is for new vacation packages booked June 1 through September 30, 2020 and this offer is only good for those who had a package or room-only reservation between March 16 and May 31, 2020. For more details, head to the article discussing it on the DIS or watch the video!
Today’s DIS Unplugged Video
Today on the DIS Unplugged, this week’s episode of The DVC Show was released and focused on the pros and cons of Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. This is part of an ongoing series the DVC Show team has been doing and I believe they are getting close to the end. This one might actually be the final one. I lose track of these things easily.
Today’s DIS Video
Today on the DIS, we are featuring a video that is near and dear to my heart. The last time we were in California, Ryno and I tried to take as much video as we could knowing that it might be a long time before we’d get to go back. It’s been like 6 months now, so we weren’t wrong about that. We posted a lot of videos from that trip already, but one we forgot about was Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. I shot this video in a front row bench with my wide angle lens and tripod and it came out very nice, except for one small problem – I kicked the tripod about 2/3 of the way through the show messing up a flawless shot. Normally, that would be enough for me to not post it at all, but we need videos going up consistently, so there it is.
Today’s Disney Find
I didn’t have a lot of free time over the weekend to dig in and find videos I haven’t watched countless times, so this is a slightly boring pick today. I’ve probably made it very apparent after one week that I love classic Disney programming especially if it’s Walt Disney’s Disneyland, Walt Disney Presents or Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color. That’s why I’m choosing to showcase An Adventure in Color/Mathmagic Land.
This was the first episode of Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color and is perfect for this self isolation period. Why you ask? Well, I don’t know about schools nowadays, but we’d watch the VHS of Mathmagic Land sometimes on day’s when we had a math sub when I was growing up. That’s right – it’s actually very educational. I’d recommend springing for a clean, digital copy, but this taped-from-Disney Channel copy also gets the job done.
Welp, that’s it for today’s picks. I don’t think I gave you too much homework to do and if I didn’t give you enough then the good news is tomorrow is just a day away. Happy watching!
