Yesterday, I was reading a few articles about Johnny Depp and his supposed change of heart towards Disney and the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise. According to internet sources, the on-again-off-again relationship between Depp and Disney might currently be on the up, with the Hollywood star reportedly keeping an open mind to future projects. The news itself was underwhelming, not qualifying as news to share with everyone here; however, it did get me thinking about what the future should look like for the POTC series.
It all began in 2003 when the first film made a splash on the big screen. With an all-star cast, an 80% Rotten Tomatoes Score, and a storyline that brought the adventurous Disney attraction to life, it was a winner. The four films that followed declined in popularity (and RT scores) until the fifth and final movie was released in 2017.
With all the Caribbean water under the pirate bridge, should this franchise be revived at all? Or is it better that it fades away into the foggy horizon?
