If you’ve ever taken a Disney Cruise from Fort Lauderdale, you’ve likely traveled on or considered taking the Brightline train. Brightline offers high speed train rides from Orlando International Airport (MCO) all the way to Miami with stops in West Palm, Boca Raton Fort Lauderdale, and Aventura.
Brightline originally opened in 2018 and continues to grow in both passengers and expanded lines. In 2025 alone, Brightline welcomed 3.1 million riders and had an increased revenue of $214 million. Brightline’s latest expansion will take its rail service over to Tampa, servicing the East Coast of Florida for the first time. So, why is Brightline considering bankruptcy?

Despite Brightline’s popularity and increased revenue, the company is still sheltering $5.5 billion in debt. In a 2025 independent audit, it was said Brightline would be unlikely to continue without changes. Even though Brightline reports year-over-year increases, 2025 was originally forecasted to have 1 million more passengers. This month it was also confirmed Brightline is considering bankruptcy-loan offers. Much to Disney fans disappointment, Brightline also previously cancelled its project to connect MCO to Disney Springs.
The good news for travelers is that filing for bankruptcy wouldn’t halt Brightline travel but rather offer the company better repayment terms for its staggering debt. In fact, if you haven’t already taken the Brightline, you’re missing out! The travel is efficient, enjoyable, and typically less than the price of flying or booking private transportation. Our team has taken the Brightline from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale for a Disney Cruise and found it to be the easiest way to get to a Port Everglades cruise. Personally, we hope Brightline succeeds and continues to grow.

Be sure to let us know in the comments if you’ve taken the Brightline or plan to in the future!
