For years, we’ve discussed how planning a Walt Disney World vacation can be just as much fun, if not more, than the vacation itself. Walt Disney World pays attention to guest feedback and shared that guests say “they would prefer to have the option to do more of their planning before their theme park day.”
With that in mind, Disney has announced that changes are coming to Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane Entry this summer.
On July 24, Walt Disney World will introduce new, simpler names to provide more clarity for everyone. Disney Genie+ service will become Lightning Lane Multi Pass, while individual Lightning Lane will now be known as Lightning Lane Single Pass.

Lightning Lane passes will also be updated to help assist guests prior to their arrival:
- Make Lightning Lane plans before you’re here, for added confidence.
- Choose your experiences and times prior to purchasing, so you know what you’re getting.
- Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day.
Keep reading to learn more about how Lightning Lane passes will work beginning July 24th.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Guests who purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass will be able to choose up to 3 Lightning Lane selections in a theme park prior to their visit. Guests will also be able to choose available times as they make their selections.
After a Lightning Lane has been used on the day of their visit, guests can check the My Disney Experience app for availability to make an additional selection.
Lightning Lane Single Pass
Lightning Lane Single Pass is going to work similarly to how it does now. Guests will be able to select an available time to ride one of Disney’s most popular attractions and make their purchase in advance.
How to Plan Ahead
Guests who are staying at a Disney Resort hotel will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance, for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to 3 days in advance.
The advance purchase windows will allow guests to secure some of their must-do rides and experiences after they’ve had some time to decide what dining reservations they want to book and any other plans they’d like to consider.
Guests may purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Lightning Lane Single Pass or both. The app will also be updated to make it quicker and easier to purchase and plan, with fewer steps and a new option to purchase Lightning Lane Single Pass and Lightning Lane Multi Pass in one transaction.
Disney says that the new Lightning Lane passes will blend features from its current services and the previously offered FastPass+ service, giving guests the option to plan ahead if they’d like to while removing the challenge of planning during their vacation.
Similar to the way FastPass+ used to work, guests who can pick three attractions in advance can choose one from Group 1 and two from Group 2, or all three from Group 2.
