Disney will host a Hollywood premiere for its live-action Snow White on March 15th but without its usual grand red carpet experience.
The afternoon festivities will feature a pre-party and screening at the El Capitan Theatre, with Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot expected to attend. Unlike Disney’s usual premieres, the red carpet will have limited media access, and will not include the dozens of media outlets Disney usually invites. The event’s coverage will be restricted to photographers and Disney’s in-house media team instead.
An article in The Hollywood Reporter says that these measures are being taken “to prevent Zegler and Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, from answering questions on the spot.” They also say that “the studio’s position is that they opted for ‘a more celebratory, family-friendly afternoon event to match the tone and target audience for the film.'”)
The female-skewing live-action event pic which remakes Walt Disney’s cherished 1937 animated classic has been come under fire for years on social media due to a combination of the film’s progressive creative decisions and star Rachel Zegler’s controversial comments, while also suffering from culture war attacks that seemed doggedly determined to torpedo the perceived ‘woke’ film no matter what.
