According to the Orlando Business Journal, The Walt Disney Company has started working on taking the magic to the skies, and not in the form of Fireworks. The site reported on a new Disney patent dubbed “Untethered robot with hybrid air and water power for hovering and quick airborne movements.” The project explores air and water-powered controlled movement through the air, as well as the flying and landing of a robot system. The Walt Disney Company already utilizes robots in some of their entertainment, though should this new endeavor come to pass, it would be a substantial step forward.
“In-flight movements and stable or controlled landings for a flying robot have recently come into demand to provide unique and surprising entertainment to audiences in settings where it may be difficult to utilize live performers,” said the patent.

As the presence of Marvel and its characters increases in Disney Parks, it is easy to see where a system like this could be used to create vivid, action-packed special effects for live shows. Where would you like to see a similar use of technology implemented? For me, I would definitely love to see something to do with Iron Man or maybe even Buzz Lightyear!
