Disney has made a sizable real estate purchase in Southern California, acquiring the longtime Yamaha Motor Corp. USA headquarters in Cypress for approximately $115 million.
According to the Orange County Register, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S. Inc. purchased the 25-acre property at 6555 Katella Avenue in a deal that closed September 23. Disney confirmed the acquisition and says the property will eventually be used to support Disneyland Resort‘s back-of-house operations.
The campus is located roughly seven miles from Disneyland Resort’s Simba parking lot and includes nearly 279,000 square feet of office, warehouse, and industrial space. The property occupies an entire city block bordered by Katella Avenue, Holder Street, and Yamaha Way.

“This property offered an opportunity for a sound investment given its sizable footprint and proximity to the resort,” Disney said in a statement to the Orange County Register. Disney added that the acquisition gives the company additional space to support its “long-term operational needs” as its business continues to grow and evolve.
Exactly what Disney plans to put there remains unknown. Back-of-house facilities generally support operations guests don’t see, and Disney cited services such as laundry and costuming as examples. The company says it has no additional details to announce at this time.
Don’t expect Disney to move in immediately, either. Yamaha has occupied the Cypress campus for 47 years and is in the process of relocating operations to Kennesaw, Georgia. As part of the sale, Yamaha will lease the property back through 2028, according to commercial real estate firm Avison Young.
The purchase is especially interesting as Disneyland moves forward with its long-term growth plans in Anaheim. While Disney hasn’t connected this particular acquisition to any specific Disneyland project, adding 25 acres of nearby operational space certainly gives the resort more room to work with behind the scenes in the years ahead.
