First announced at the 2024 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the world of Pixar Animation Studios’ Monsters, Inc. will come to life at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. The new land will include beloved monster inhabitants James P. Sullivan, Mike Wazowski, and so many others. When Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter and Imagineer Michael Hundgen took the stage at the 2025 SXSW event, they walked the audience through the upcoming immersive space as a walk through the streets of Monstropolis comes to life in the theme park.
The new land’s signature attraction will take guests on an exhilarating roller coaster ride through the Monsters, Inc. door vault. Hundgen teased a little by saying, “Imagineers have been itching to turn that moment into an attraction ever since we saw it for the first time,” and the thing is, so have we! Collective fans of the film have been begging for an attraction from this specific scene since it debuted in 2001. Now, we’re finally getting what we asked for, plus we’ve got a first look at the attraction’s loading area and ride vehicles.
While many details about the attraction are still kept under wraps (in a laugh canister, of course!), Imagineering is unveiling a first look at the load area. This upcoming door ride will introduce Disney Parks’ first-ever suspended coaster and first-ever vertical lift.
Guests will board the ride vehicle before being hoisted into the air (just like in the movie!) and zoom into the door vault. It will be “an experience that’s as memorable and fun as the film,” Hundgen said.
