Disney Spokeswoman Addresses 4-Hour Network Outage

You may have noticed on Friday, July 6, that multiple Walt Disney Company websites were not working for about four hours. According to the Orlando Sentinel, this was a widespread problem affecting a variety of Disney related content including the Walt Disney World website, the Disney Cruise Line website, ESPN’s website, and more. The outage lasted between about 4 p.m. and 8 p.m Eastern Standard Time.

A Disney spokeswoman addressed the incident saying it was due to “routine maintenance on the network.” She also made it clear that this was not an external hack.

During the maintenance work, guests in the Walt Disney World theme parks could not use the My Disney Experience App, which is used to update FastPass selections and dining reservations, check wait times, and so much more. This was likely problematic for some guests.
