Planet Hollywood at Disney Springs will be laying off 468 employees by January 19. The restaurant is closing for six months to renovate as part of a redesign in the changeover from Downtown Disney to Disney Springs; it is expected to reopen in June 2016.
The building will be renovated to resemble an astronomy observatory to fit in with the Disney Springs’ storyline of being a turn-of-the-century waterfront town. The redesign will include a new menu and experience for the customers, including a DJ playing music in the dining rooms. An outdoor terrace and bar area, called Stargazers, will offer live entertainment.
The laid-off employees will have first shot at being rehired when the restaurant is ready to reopen.
