On June 6th, 1944 Allied forces began the invasion of Normandy, the largest amphibious operation in history. One of the most pivotal moments of World War II, this date was termed D-Day, and its anniversary has long since been an opportunity to honor the soldiers who served and sacrificed in history’s darkest hours. This year Walt Disney World Resort has partnered with SALUTE Diversity Research Group to honor those veterans.
On June 6th, 2017 at 5 pm on Main Street U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom a special Flag Retreat Ceremony will be held. Soldiers from the Orlando VA Medical Center at Lake Nona nursing home facility will be the ceremony’s honorees. These veterans have served in multiple wars, including World War II.
