The first trailer and poster for Disney’s live-action reimagining of Moana have arrived, giving audiences an exciting glimpse into the upcoming film that will bring the beloved 2016 animated adventure to life in a whole new way.

The film stars Dwayne Johnson as Maui, a trickster demigod, and Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana, a young wayfinder who sets sail on a daring voyage to save her people. The trailer showcases sweeping ocean vistas, the lush island of Motunui, and a glimpse of familiar faces, including the adorable but fierce Kakamora tribe. Fans also hear Lagaʻaia perform a powerful moment from the song I Am Moana, teasing the emotional heart of the story.

The cast also includes John Tui as Chief Tui, Moana’s steadfast father; Frankie Adams as Sina, her warm and strong-willed mother; and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, the wise matriarch who encourages Moana to embrace her destiny.

Directed by Thomas Kail, the Emmy and Tony Award-winning filmmaker behind Hamilton, this new adaptation celebrates Polynesian heritage through authentic performances, stunning visuals, and reimagined music. The project is produced by Dwayne Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, with Miranda also contributing to the film’s musical legacy. Auliʻi Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the animated original and its sequel, serves as an executive producer.

The live-action Moana will revisit the story of a courageous young woman who heeds the Ocean’s call and teams up with Maui to restore balance and prosperity to her island home.
Audiences can experience the breathtaking visuals, stirring music, and timeless storytelling of Moana when it sails into U.S. theaters on July 10, 2026.
