Disneyland Performing Cast Members Planning to Form Union

According to a Facebook post in the Actors Equity Association, Disneyland cast members working as characters and in the resort’s parades are planning to unionize. There are reportedly 1,700 cast members who announced their intent to unionize to the Actors Equity Association. Most of the more than 35,000 cast members employed by the Disneyland Resort have labor unions already, but approximately 1,700 performers and character actors do not.

The newly organized group is called “Magic United,” and a new website of the same name has also been launched.

In a statement this afternoon, Disneyland officials said, “We believe that our Cast Members deserve to have all the facts and the right to a confidential vote that recognizes their individual choices.”
