Disneyland Resort Announces Plan for Reopening in July The DIS SBCnew03

UPDATE 06/19/20: It appears that the Disneyland Resort has received governmental approval to reopen Downtown Disney, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel as planned. There is still no word on approval for the theme parks.

The Disneyland website, which was updated today, now says:

The Downtown Disney District will begin opening on July 9, and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel will plan to reopen on July 23. Pending state and local government approvals, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park will plan to reopen on July 17.

The Disneyland Resort has shared their proposed plan for reopening the resort, starting with Downtown Disney on July 9th, the theme parks on July 17th, and two hotels on July 23rd.

When Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure reopen on July 17th (the 65th birthday of Disneyland), the resort will manage attendance with a new reservation system requiring all ticketed guests, including Annual Passholders, to get a reservation in advance.

Currently all ticket sales, including Passholder sales and renewals, are on hold. More information on the reservations system and ticket sales will be released soon.

NEW INFO 06/12/20: When the resort reopens, guests should expect to undergo temperature screenings and wear face coverings. Disneyland will encourage social distancing with appropriate signs and physical barriers. Disneyland has also increased cleaning and sanitation throughout the resort and added hand-washing stations for guests.

Parades and other nighttime spectaculars will not be presented and characters will entertain guests in new ways.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel are planning to open on July 23rd with increased cleaning measures and other safety protocols. Disney Vacation Club Villas at the Grand Californian will reopen as well. No reopening date was announced for the Disneyland Hotel.

Guests with reservations through July 22 will have any change or cancellation fees waived up to the date of scheduled check-in.

First though, Downtown Disney is scheduled to reopen on July 9th, including World of Disney, with new changes to promote physical distancing and cleanliness.

All reopening dates and plans are pending state and local government approval.

Anaheim mayor Harry Sidhu said of the announcement:

Today is a great day for Anaheim.

We could see the reopening of Disneyland 65 years to the day from when Walt Disney opened his first theme park in our city. This is a major milestone in the recovery of Anaheim, California and our nation.

We know Disney will be able to meet the challenge of reopening safely, and Anaheim stands ready to see that happen.
