Early this morning, a contractor working backstage at the Disneyland Resort died from his injuries after being hit by a metal plate.
Javier Jimenez, 37, was working in a trench installing new pipes for a HVAC system. According to Sgt. Daron Wyatt from the Anaheim Police Department, a piece of equipment accidentally hit a cross beam which caused the metal plate to fall on Jimenez.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene at about 3:20am. Jimenez went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to a nearby hospital, however he did not survive the injuries.
The Disneyland Resort released the following statement:
“We are saddened by this tragic accident involving a contractor and on behalf of Disneyland Resort extend our deepest sympathies to this gentleman’s family, friends and coworkers.”
As expected, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is looking into the accident.
