It’s time to play the music. It’s time to light the lights… again!

Disney+ has announced a brand-new event special featuring everyone’s favorite felt-covered entertainers, set to premiere in 2026. This one-time variety show will reunite Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal, and the entire Muppet gang as they return to the iconic Muppet Theatre in celebration of the show’s 50th anniversary.

From Elton John to Steve Martin, The Muppet Show has a long history of welcoming major stars. Headlining this highly-anticipated special is none other than singer, actress, and breakout pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter, who will join the Muppets as their special guest star. Carpenter has recently made waves with her chart-topping hits and performances (she also started out as a young Disney star), making her a fitting addition to the Muppet legacy of celebrity collaborations. Has Miss Piggy met her match?

Produced by The Muppets Studio in partnership with Point Grey Pictures (the production company co-founded by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver), the special promises to stay true to the heart of the original series. Early production notes pitched the show as a blend of musical numbers, sketch comedy, behind-the-scenes antics, and the kind of lovable pandemonium that made The Muppet Show a household favorite in the 1970s and beyond.

While this project is currently described as a standalone event, its announcement has sparked excitement among longtime Muppet fans and new viewers alike, especially those eager to see a modern revival of the beloved variety format. If successful, this one-time event could act as a pilot for a new series.

We can only hope to see all the foolishness we’ve come to know and love! No official release date has been set beyond the 2026 window, but anticipation is already building.

So yes – it’s time to play the music, and it’s definitely time to light the lights because the Muppets are back, and they’re ready to steal the spotlight once again.
