Epcot’s Soarin’ to close for refurb January 4

Epcot’s popular hang-gliding simulation ride, Soarin’, will close for a revamp January 4, 2016. Details of the transformation have been rumored for awhile, but no specific dates were known until now. A third theater will be built, an addition that should help spread out the crowds in the always-busy attraction. The existing theaters will receive new digital screens and projection systems.

A new film for the attraction, Soarin’ Around the World, is already in development. In the current iteration, guests fly above scenic California. The new film will take them over attractions around the world, such as The Great Wall of China and the African savannas.

Soarin’ will reopen in summer 2016, but an exact date was not announced.
