ICYMI: Disney Suspends Use of All Fire Effects Globally

The big news of this past weekend was an unexpected twist to the nighttime entertainment offered in Disneyland when Maleficent’s dragon went up in flames during the second half of Fantasmic! Jackie had all the details for us on Sunday though an updated statement from Disney held some crucial new information that was easy to miss.

After the most recent in a string of disasters for the dragon affectionately dubbed “Murphy” in a whimsical nod to “Murphy’s Law,” Disney has said that they are “temporarily suspending fire effects” that are similar to those used at Disneyland Park in California, “at select shows and entertainment experiences globally.”

As you can see from the Twitter clip below, Saturday night’s fire was no minor incident, with not even the cheeriest park tunes able to distract from the sight of flames.

This next clip from Twitter user @LeviathanPop shows what guests could see for the outer sections of the Splash Mountian attraction. The clip does contain some snippets of foul language.

In an earlier statement, Disneyland officials said all cast members were safely evacuated from Tom Sawyer Island. “Due to smoke and wind, attractions near the island were safely evacuated of any guests, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.”
