Lunar New Year Celebration planned for Disney California Adventure

Disney California Adventure is making plans for this year’s Lunar New Year Celebration. The event will expand to 17 days this year, taking place January 20-February 5. Lunar New Year is an Asian celebration that highlights “the moment the sun and moon begin their journey for another year.” Guests will enjoy food, live musical performances and Chinese acrobats, activities, limited-time merchandise, and Lunar New Year costumes for the Mickey, Minnie, Mulan and Mushu. There will be three new Asian marketplaces serving food and beverages from Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures. A new six-minute pre-show, “Hurry Home,” will be seen before the evening’s showing of World of Color. The story is of “a Little Lantern on its journey home to join its Lantern family in celebrating Lunar New Year” and “features animated appearances by Mulan and Mushu in dream sequences inspired by traditional Chinese paper cut-out style animation.” The score for the piece is by Tan Dun, Academy Award-winning composer, and is “an original arrangement of the music created for the Grand Opening of Shanghai Disney Resort.” News source/photo credit: Disney Parks Blog
