David Ogden Stiers, the actor who famously played Major Charles Emerson Winchester III in M*A*S*H passed away peacefully on March 3 in his Newport, OR home after a courageous battle with bladder cancer.
Stiers was also an in-demand voice actor, voicing characters in eight Disney animated features, including the 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast where he voiced the head of the household staff, Cogsworth, and also delivered the film’s opening narration.
He went on to voice Governor Ratcliffe and Wiggins in Pocahontas, the Archdeacon in Hunchback of Notre Dame and Dr. Jumba Jookiba in Lilo & Stitch.
I am very sad to report that David died this morning March 3, 2018 peacefully at his home in Newport, Oregon after a courageous battle with bladder cancer.
