Beginning May 7, 2025, a Real ID will be required to fly on all domestic flights. If you have a trip coming up or are in the process of planning one, we recommend that you get started as early as you can, as the process can take some time. Local Department of Motor Vehicles locations are busier than ever with this new requirement quickly approaching, and people still need to renew expiring driver’s licenses as well.
What you’ll need to get Real ID:
- A valid ID, passport, or birth certificate
- Proof of your social security number
- Proof of your date of birth
- Two items that show state residency
In addition, if your name has changed since birth, you must bring all documents with you as proof to show that paper trail – marriage certificate, court documents, etc.
If you aren’t sure whether or not you have a Real ID, look for a star in the top right-hand corner of the card. Visit the Department of Homeland Security website for more information.
