Disney is continuing to add to their string of announcements regarding live-action versions of their animated films.
First up is a prequel to Aladdin called Genies. The Genie’s backstory will be told in the film, so viewers will get to find out how he became trapped in the lamp. Writers attached to the project are Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy vs. Jason, Friday the 13th remake, Baywatch movie and O’Lucky Day). A live-action remake of Aladdin is planned as a follow-up to Genies.
This week, Disney announced a remake of The Sword in the Stone. The screenplay for this live-action film will be written by Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones).
In recent months, Disney has also announced plans for live-action versions of Beauty and the Beast, Pinocchio, The Jungle Book, Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, Mulan and Tinker Bell. This is not including the films that have already been released – Alice In Wonderland (2010), Maleficent (2014) and Cinderella (2015).
