New baby elephant calf born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

A new elephant has now made the savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Kilimanjaro Safaris its home. Stella, a female elephant calf, was born to 28-year-old Donna recently and is the seventh elephant to be born at the theme park. Donna has given birth to two of those seven elephants; Nadirah was born in 2005 and Luna was born in 2010. Stella’s exact age was not shared, but the article does mention that Donna’s pregnancy was from natural breeding in January 2015. Elephants are pregnant for an average of 22 months, so Stella would have been born late in 2016. Stella and Donna lived together backstage to give the baby a chance to begin nursing and for the family to bond. There are now 10 elephants living at Animal Kingdom – three males and six females. The Disney Parks Blog has shared a video of Stella getting used to her new surroundings. News source: Disney Parks Blog
