Pie Meets Ice Cream in Salt & Straw’s NEW Summer Series

What’s better than a slice of pie with a scoop of ice cream on top? Apparently, the answer is putting the pie in the ice cream, and I’m not going to argue with that logic.

Salt & Straw has revealed its latest limited-time series, and this one feels made for summer. The Summer Pies Series takes five different pies, tarts, and other baked favorites and turns them into the wonderfully unexpected ice cream flavors this company is known for.

For Disney fans, you can find Salt & Straw in two very convenient places. There’s a scoop shop at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World and another in the Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort.

The five Summer Pies flavors are:

  • Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie
  • Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie
  • Peaches and Cream Galette
  • Gruyère and Tomato Custard Tart
  • Coconut Cherry Pie with Almond Crust

Keep reading, because there’s a whole lot more going on in these scoops than those names tell you.

Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie

Wild Berry Pie Filling, Flaky Pie Crust, Salted Vanilla Ice Cream

Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie

Wildflower Honey Frozen Yogurt, Lemon Chess Pie, Lemon Curd

Peaches and Cream Galette

Fresh Peach Ice Cream, Peach Galette, Peach Pie Filling

Gruyère & Tomato Custard Tart

Gruyère & Tomato Tart, Salt & Pepper Custard Ice Cream

Now, we need to talk a little more about this Gruyère and Tomato Custard Tart ice cream.

As many of us know, Salt & Straw has never been afraid to throw something completely unexpected into an ice cream cone, so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. Still, tomatoes and Gruyère in my ice cream? Salt & pepper, too? I have questions. At the same time, I really want to know what people think of it.

The Wildflower Honey and Lemon Chess Pie sounds fabulous, and the Coconut Cherry Pie with Almond Crust sounds pretty incredible, too. But, this is the kind of menu where ordering a flight and sampling several flavors might be the right move.

Salt & Straw changes its limited-edition flavors roughly every four weeks, so these aren’t permanent additions to the menu. If you’ll be visiting Disney Springs or Downtown Disney while the Summer Pies Series is being scooped, stop in and see which one wins you over.

And if you try the tomato and Gruyère one, I need to hear about it. For research purposes, obviously.
