A Frozen musical will be officially hitting Broadway in Spring 2018. Disney Theatrical Productions also said that they would do an out-of-town trial run in Summer 2017 before beginning on Broadway.
The musical will be directed by Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Mozart in the Jungle) and choreographed by Tony winner Peter Darling (Billy Elliot, Matilda).
Many of the creative team from the film will be teaming up once again to develop the musical, including composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and screenwriter and co-director Jennifer Lee.
Bob Crowley (Mary Poppins, Aladdin) will do scenic and costume designs, Natasha Katz will oversee lighting, Peter Hylenski is in charge of sound, and Stephen Oremus (Avenue Q, Wicked, The Book of Mormon) is music director.
Also announced was a new animated holiday special coming to ABC in 2017. All of the original voice cast from the film will return. This will be directed by Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton (Prep & Landing) and produced by Roy Conli (Big Hero 6).
