Epcot will be celebrating its 35th Anniversary in October and Disney has just released photos of some cool retro merchandise that is being created for the milestone occasion. The Disney Parks Merchandise Team had a goal of creating merchandise that “captures the essence of a spirited phrase from Epcot’s beginnings – ‘We’ve just begun to dream.’”
Eric Caszatt, the Creative Manager with the Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Creative Group, explains, “We wanted the art to have a distinct vintage feeling, and take its cues from artwork, logos, signage, and in-park graphics found in the early 1980s. We also referenced actual merchandise released during the first few years of operation. Many products then did not incorporate Disney characters into the artwork with the exception of Figment from the Journey Into Imagination attraction. I’m excited to see several products being released this fall can trace their heritage back to those original items.”
Purple, pink, red, orange, and gold were the five prominently featured colors in products from Epcot’s opening year and much of the artwork for the upcoming anniversary features those same colors. Epcot’s original name, “EPCOT Center”, is even said to be making an appearance in “directly inspired by an original merchandise.” There is even some new Figment merchandise on its way too!
There will also be a limited edition MagicBand released on October 1, 2017 according to our friends at magicbandcollectors.com! Take a look at the super-retro look!
Epcot’s 35th Anniversary merchandise collection is set to be released in late September in select locations throughout Epcot and via the Shop Disney Parks app once released.
