Snapchat recently struck separate deals with the Walt Disney Company, Universal, and Six Flags that will bring augmented reality experiences to Snapchat users in the parks. Visitors will be able to interact with their favorite movie characters with brand new park-specific lenses and filters.
Snapchat has a history with all three park operators, creating Mickey and Minnie birthday face lenses, a Jurassic Park Bitmoji lens and a Superman face lens. With this deal, Snapchat will bring a bigger and better presence to theme parks around the world.
One of these new experiences allows guests to watch the Minions’ antics throughout Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood on their smartphones.
Universal Chief Digital Officer Chris Crayner claimed: “the engagement metrics we’ve seen from the Minions AR partnership between Snap, Illumination, and Universal Parks has thrilled us and is a great example of reaching fans in the platforms they live on.”
The Disney Parks are also integrating Snapchat into the overall guest experience with Mickey and Minnie lenses, more filters, and the recently announced Play Disney Parks app.
A Disney Parks spokesperson stated, “along with offerings like the all-new Play Disney Parks app, we can’t wait to use this amazing technology to connect Disney Parks guests with even more of their favorite characters and stories.”
The Disney and Universal augmented reality experiences are already live in the parks.
