Taylor Swift Joins ‘Toy Story 5’ With New Original Song

Well, this is a crossover I didn’t have on my bingo card.

Taylor Swift is officially stepping into the Toy Story universe, with a brand-new original song created for Toy Story 5, which hits theaters on June 19. The track is called “I Knew It, I Knew You,” and it’s tied directly to Jessie’s story in the upcoming film.

The song, written and produced by Swift alongside longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, drops on June 5 across streaming platforms. It’ll also be part of the film’s full soundtrack when that releases later in June.

And if you’re wondering what kind of Taylor we’re getting here, it sounds like she’s circling back to her country roots a bit. The song leans into Jessie’s arc, which makes sense given how closely that character has always been tied to some of the most emotional moments in the Toy Story franchise.

Director Andrew Stanton didn’t exactly downplay it either. He said the song felt like it belonged to Toy Story right away, like it had always been part of the story. That’s a bold claim, especially for a franchise that’s already packed with iconic music, but it does set expectations pretty high.

If you noticed those mysterious “TS” billboards popping up recently in cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, and even London, this is what that was all about. Disney and Swift clearly had some fun with the rollout, mixing Toy Story and Taylor Swift branding before making it official.

There’s also a merch angle here, because of course there is. Three exclusive CD versions of the single are already up for pre-sale on Taylor’s website, each featuring different versions of the song, including acoustic and piano takes with alternate vocals.

Between the Jessie focus, the country influence, and Swift’s track record for emotionally loaded storytelling, this feels like it could land right in that “you’re not crying, I’m crying” territory that Toy Story does so well.

And now I’m mentally preparing for whatever emotional damage Pixar is about to deliver this time.
