Set to open this holiday season at both Disney Springs in Walt Disney World and in Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort are two new Void Experience Centers. These Void Experience Centers will allow guests to step inside an immersive virtual reality experience called Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire.
The Void is a “location-based immersive entertainment firm” from Utah. They have teamed up with Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB, which is their immersive entertainment division, to create an experience that will allow guests to walk freely into a galaxy far, far away. The crucial part of The Void’s virtual reality experiences is the combination of the virtual reality and the physical/tangible surroundings that are also part of the experience. This combination is what makes the attraction into what The Void calls a “hyper-reality” experience.
Co-founder and chief creative officer of The Void Curtis Hickman said of the experience, “a truly transformative experience is so much more than what you see with your eyes; it’s what you hear, feel, touch, and even smell. Through the power of The Void, guests who step into Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire won’t just see this world, they’ll know that they are part of this amazing story.”
There aren’t many details out on what will take place or what the story will be in Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, but many have gathered that it might take place around the same time period as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story due to the appearance of the security droid K-2SO. It also appears that guests will visit Mustafar, a volcanic planet that is seen in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
