For the first time in a Disney Park, guests will be able to celebrate Life Day alongside Chewbacca! Walt Disney World announced Chewbacca will be donning his signature Life Day red robe and blue orb while greeting guests during Jollywood Nights! Disney has teased the introduction of Life Day in the parks with seasonal merchandise but this is the first time seeing Chewbacca in his seasonal outfit.
If you’re not familiar with Life Day, it’s a Wookie holiday tradition which celebrates family, joy and harmony. Star Wars fans were first introduced to Life Day during the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special which was the first Star Wars spin-off film. The story follows Chewbacca and Han Solo as they travel to the Wookie planet of Kashyyyk to celebrate Life Day with Chewbacca’s family. Of course, the Empire gets involved and Luke, Leia, C-3PO, and R2-D2 must step in to save this holiday from the dark side. This campy holiday special is almost a myth as it’s not officially streaming anywhere but has grown in popularity as a nostalgic, deep cut for Star Wars fans.
