Port Orleans French Quarter embodies the historic charm of New Orleans and the vibrancy of Mardi Gras with all the Disney magic you expect from Walt Disney World! This Moderate Resort is located near Disney Springs and we’re here to tell you all the reasons you should add it to your Disney must do list!
1. Unique Dining
Mickey beignets, gumbo, shrimp and grits, and classic cocktails like a New Orleans Hurricane can all be found at Port Orleans French Quarter. The best part is that most of these items can be purchased at the resort’s quick-service Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. As a Disney regular, it is so nice to have the option to get both unique dishes and pizza/ chicken fingers from the same location for the whole family. On top of that, these options are $20 or less! In addition to the main quick-service, the French Quarter lobby offers Scat Cat’s Club Café specifically for beignets and Scat Cat’s Club for evening cocktails, Cajun dishes, and live music on the weekends. The pool bar even offers a lot of the same New Orleans-style cocktails, ensuring you “Let the good times roll” on your Disney vacation.
2. New Orleans Charm Meets Disney
If you’ve never visited New Orleans, it is unlike anywhere else and full of history. Disney was able to recreate its own version complete with wrought-iron balconies, brick streets lined with Spanish moss oak trees, and classic jazz music. While there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy, French Quarter is also a great “getaway” resort for a romantic retreat or a peaceful break from the crowds of the parks.
3. Kid-Friendly Activities
Unlike many of the other Moderate Resorts, French Quarter is much more compact and easier to walk. One big perk for families is the proximity of the playground, splash pad, pool, arcade, and dining. The splash pad alone could be a whole afternoon’s worth of activity, but the proximity of other options ensures your family will have a relaxing time at the resort.
4. Upscale, Classic Rooms
The rooms are complimented by dark woods and neutral colors, giving it a relaxing and open feel more similar to a Deluxe Resort than a Moderate. But don’t worry – there are still Disney touches like this amazing print of New Orleans Square at Disneyland!
5. Two Resorts for the Price of One
Port Orleans French Quarter is right beside you guessed it… Port Orleans Riverside! This sister resort is a short, beautiful walk or a leisurely boat ride away. Port Orleans Riverside offers a table service restaurant, Boatwright’s Dining Hall, in addition to a lounge and quick-service featuring different menus than that of French Quarter.
One of the biggest highlights is the ability to take a boat from either resort to Disney Springs. The boat ride takes about 15 minutes and takes you along the Sassagoula River past Saratoga Springs and straight to the Disney Springs Marketplace. This is a great option for your arrival day or a way to spend an entire day enjoying Disney without the purchase of a theme park ticket!
