“A Pirate’s Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas” at Walt Disney World is an awesome, but often overlooked activity that the entire family will enjoy. Parents will appreciate that the adventure is also free!
To participate, you simply stop by the small hut that is located near the Jungle Cruise. You will be given one of five maps that contain clues to take you to various locations within Adventureland. When you discover the location of the next clue, you simply scan your MagicBand (or Key to the World Card if you are not using a MagicBand) at the designated location and a variety of cool special effects take place. Skeletons rise from water, cannons are shot, treasure chests open and so much more. You truly see and experience parts of Adventureland that you probably have never noticed before. (Don’t worry – no spoiler pictures are posted here.) As my family completed the adventures, no less than five people stopped us and asked us what we were doing and how we made the special effects happen. Magical!
When you complete all clues on one map, you go back to the hut and get another map. The maps are yours to keep, and they make excellent (and free) souvenirs.You will also receive a collectable trading card after you complete each mission, and after completing all five missions you receive a special card signed by Captain Jack Sparrow himself. EPCOT also has an interactive quest entitled, “Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure.”
Also, if your family loves pirates as much as we do, please don’t miss Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial in Magic Kingdom. This delightful show is worth scheduling your day around. Captain Jack and his sidekick Mack will teach aspiring pirates the basics of sword fighting, how to talk like a pirate and provide approximately 25 minutes of delightful entertainment. Check your Times Guide for the daily schedule, but the show times are usually between the hours of 12 pm – 6 pm.
