Not only is today Earth Day, it’s also Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s birthday. What better day to give their latest cupcake a try?!
Today’s treat, the Honey Bee Cupcake, can be found at Animal Kingdom’s Starbucks location, Creature Comforts. The treat features orange-flavored cake, Bavarian cream filling, and honey-flavored icing. The cupcake is topped with sugar cube bumblebees, crunchy pearls, yellow sanding sugar, and a small white chocolate honeycomb piece.
First, this treat is undeniably cute. You’ll want to take picture after picture, and for good reason. Those sugary little bumblebees alone are show stealers.
Second, the taste of the cupcake does not disappoint. The orange-flavored cake is moist and the overall taste is bright and just so good. If you enjoy icing, you’re in luck; this cupcake doesn’t skimp on the honey-flavored sweet stuff. It’s a denser icing, so if you favor the fluffier variety, this might not be for you.
My cupcake didn’t offer much of the Bavarian cream filling, but what was there was creamy and delightful. The sugar cube bees are just what you’d expect; and the crunchy, sugary things might be a bit more cute than they are delicious. That being said, you have to try at least one. The white chocolate honeycomb that tops the whole thing is good, and is a nice way to end the treat. The crunchy pearls add a nice change in texture.
The cupcake costs $5.99, and will be available at Creature Comforts until April 29th. Friends, this is one to get. And one to savor.
Happy Earth Day! And happy birthday, Animal Kingdom!
