Of all the unique entertainment options, photo ops, and exclusive food and drinks, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the menu at ABC Commissary is a highlight of the 2024 Disney Jollywood Nights! We tried almost the entire event-exclusive menu and were blown away by at least three of the dishes.
ABC Commissary is a Disney’s Hollywood Studios quick-service location that is quite literally themed to be the commissary for the actors on the ABC lot. ABC Commissary is not generally known for its atmosphere or food, although I would definitely recommend the buffalo chicken grilled cheese on its normal menu. So we were very surprised when the Jollywood menu became our favorite food at the event!
Chicken Empanadas with Street corn – chicken empanadas served with a side of street corn salad topped with chili peppers, lime, and cotija cheese for $6.29.
The empanadas are pretty tiny, in fact, we could probably eat 30 of them they are so good. We quickly realized that the portions and prices are more similar to an EPCOT festival. The empanadas were filled with chicken and fried perfectly, plus the street corn side was just as good. The Chicken Empanadas with Street Corn make our must-do list for Jollywood Nights!
Birria Taco – shredded short rib and Monterey jack served with beef consommé for dipping for $5.29.
The taco itself is cheesy and delicious. Maybe not as flavorful as those from Cocina Cucamonga at Disney California Adventure, but still okay birria. The biggest disappointment was the beef consommé which tasted like vegetable oil with just a little onion and cilantro. There also was not enough of it to dip your taco in like you usually would with birria. This one wasn’t bad per se, but there are other far better menu items.
Yuca con Chicharron – fried pork belly, yuca fries, red pickled onions, and chili-lime seasoning with a yellow pepper aioli for $5.79.
Speaking of far better menu items, the yuca con chicharron is INCREDIBLE! The fried pork belly is so flavorful and so crispy that even if you’re not a huge fan of pork belly, you are going to love it. The yucca fries are seasoned perfectly and go so well with the yellow pepper aioli. We ended up also dipping the pork belly and that was the winning combination. You absolutely must get the Yuca con Chicharron at Jollywood Nights!
Taco ’bout a Holiday Cookie! – cranberry cheesecake-filled chocolate cookies dipped in cranberry white chocolate topped with pistachio whipped cream, gold crispy pearls, chocolate holly leaf décor, and holiday sprinkles for $5.79.
This holiday taco cookie was another surprisingly small portion but was so beautifully decorated we didn’t care. Unfortunately, it didn’t taste as good as it looks. The cranberry flavor was missing other than a subtle tart after-taste. The chocolate cookie also tasted slightly stale. With so many other incredible sweet treats at Jollywood, we would likely skip the Taco ’bout a Holiday Cookie next time.
Mexican Hot Cocoa Cheesecake – holiday chocolate cookie streusel, whipped cinnamon chocolate cheesecake, and spiced whipped cream topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon, and Wondermade churro marshmallow for $5.29.
The Mexican hot cocoa cheesecake was the undisputed winner of all the Jollywood-exclusive menu items throughout the entire event! The cookie streusel at the bottom, combined with the creamy cheesecake, was divine. Also, the chocolate, mixed with cheesecake and cinnamon, was the perfect balance of flavors. This may just be one of the best Disney World desserts I’ve had in a long time. We were fighting over the last bite of this cheesecake and wished we had ordered more. DO NOT MISS THE MEXICAN HOT COCOA CHEESECAKE!
Coquito – Bacardi Superior Rum, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, coconut cream, coconut milk, and sweetened condensed milk topped with cinnamon – $9.00.
This was a surprisingly good coquito that was rich and creamy with just the right amount of spice from the rum and cinnamon. We would absolutely recommend this cocktail, and it would be a great one to enjoy while watching Glisten! or Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!
Oaxaca Old Fashioned – Casa Dragones Blanco Tequila, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, agave nectar, and flavors of chocolate and orange served over ice and garnished with an orange for $9.00.
Whoa… this is absolutely the strongest drink I’ve ever had at a Disney Park, but not necessarily in a good way. The tequila was the dominating flavor; the smokiness from the mezcal and the chocolate and orange flavors were missing. Also, there was no orange garnish, as the description mentions. We do appreciate that many of the Jollywood cocktails had sphere ice cubes, and I guess this old-fashioned is a good value. To quote Ryno, “You could light a match and burn this place down.”
If you’re attending the 2024 Jollywood Nights event, you NEED to visit ABC Commissary and get the Chicken Empanadas, Yuca con Chicharron, Mexican Hot Cocoa Cheesecake, and the Coquito!
