Disney Dining Review: Is Crockett’s Tavern The Best Lounge at Disney World?

Trail’s End Restaurant isn’t the only newly renovated dining area at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort; Crockett’s Tavern also got some love. This lounge lives in the same building and is just a few steps away from Trail’s End, and they got a new menu. Of course, we had to go and check out the latest food items and see if the lounge holds up with the rest at Disney World.

Menu

Here’s a look at the lounge menu. There’s something for everyone on this menu, and the plates are all great for sharing. Of course, we ordered everything since these are all brand-new food items.

Charcuterie Board

When dining with Ryno, it’s important to know that if there’s a charcuterie board on the menu, it will be ordered. I think we all had high hopes for this dish, but we were quickly disappointed. The best thing about this board was the Mickey-shaped cornbread crostini; it was absolutely adorable.

Craig has very strong feelings about bread and butter pickles. He very much dislikes these types of pickles and said, “This lets me know that Satan himself made that charcuterie board.” His final thoughts were that he didn’t care for it and would not order it again.

Ryno enjoyed the sesame lavash (cracker) and the pork confit. I also enjoyed the crackers, but I paired mine with the tomato jam, and it’s very sweet, so I loved it, and Craig didn’t. Ryno also mentioned that he enjoyed the smoked turkey but didn’t love the cornbread crostini. He said that the board had a lot of things on it, but nothing wowed him enough to eat this again. He is our resident charcuterie board aficionado, so I trust his opinion on this.

The Land of the Sliders: A Trio of Sliders & Fried Green Tomato Sliders

Ryno and Craig shared the Trio of Sliders, which comes with Pulled Pork Slider with BBQ Sauce and Coleslaw, Brisket Slider with Carolina BBQ and Pickled Onions, Buffalo Chicken Slider with House-made Blue Cheese Dressing, and Dill Pickles served with Seasoned French Fries. Craig said the buffalo chicken slider was his favorite of the three, and the brisket was a close second. He noted that the pulled pork sandwich was just dull. I wonder if they could bring you a plate with three of the ones you like. Overall, this dish is great for sampling and sharing.

As for Ryno, he disagreed with Craig. He enjoyed the brisket slider just thought it could use some more sauce. The other discovery he made was that the buffalo chicken slider tasted just like a McChicken from McDonalds. When he said that, it won me over because that’s my favorite thing to order at the drive-thru.

I got the fried green tomato sliders, and of course, I shared them. This was my first time having fried green tomatoes; I thought they were delicious. The breading was nice and crispy, adding a wonderful texture difference. On the sandwich, there was a southern remoulade that rounded out all the flavors along with the citrus greens. I would definitely return and order these sliders; they are the perfect summer dish.

Chicken Bites

Craig ordered the chicken bites tossed in a blueberry BBQ sauce, which sounded very interesting. He said it was a great homemade sauce to the point that there was no reason to use the ranch that came on the plate. The main concern was that the sauce would be overly sweet, but Craig said it had excellent hints of blueberry but nothing too overwhelming.

Crispy Cauliflower

Ryno and I loved the crispy cauliflower. It was a nice light dish with a bunch of cauliflower and a delicious plant-based aioli. This wasn’t something out of this world, but I think it’s a great option. I enjoyed that it wasn’t too heavily breaded and still had great flavors and seasoning.

Trailblazin’ Dessert Trio

Our favorite duo split this dessert trio and had a lot of thoughts which led them to rank the three.

Ryno

  • Banana Pudding
  • S’mores
  • Strawberry Shortcake

Craig

  • S’mores
  • Banana Pudding
  • Strawberry Shortcake

If it were up to Craig, he’d ask if he could get the trio with three cups of the s’mores dessert. If I could eat these, I would be in the same boat as him because I love s’mores. Overall, they both said all the desserts were delicious.

Final Thoughts

I had a wonderful time here, but I can’t say it’s the best lounge on property since I haven’t been to all of them. What I can say is that I think this is one of the better ones that I’ve been to so far. The service was fantastic, the food was made really well, and the atmosphere was cozy. I would return here and order the fried green tomatoes and the crispy cauliflower. I highly recommend visiting this lounge if you can.
