How Disney Can Save All-Star Resorts from Cheerleaders & Tour Groups

I’ve stayed at every level of Walt Disney World resort, and each has its own unique benefits. One of the major draws of the All-Star Resorts is that they provide the magic of staying on Disney property at a fraction of the cost compared to moderate and deluxe resorts. Even when compared to other value-tier options like Disney’s Pop Century Resort, especially now with the boost in cost since the addition of the Skyliner, the All-Star Resorts remain the most budget-friendly option.

However, this affordability comes with a significant downside: they tend to attract cheerleading teams, high school field trips, and international teenage tour groups. Don’t get me wrong—we’ve all been teenagers once, and I understand the excitement of being at Walt Disney World. It’s a special experience for these kids, and it’s natural for them to want to enjoy every second of it. The problem is that their “fun” often includes running around the resort, playing loud games of hide-and-seek, and gathering in groups for boisterous conversations late into the night. For other guests—families with young children, couples, and adults looking for restful nights after long park days—this behavior can make for an unpleasant experience.

The reality is that, despite being in the value-tier, staying at an All-Star Resort isn’t exactly “cheap.” Families still spend thousands of dollars for their Disney vacation, and the value of that investment diminishes quickly when their sleep is disrupted night after night by energetic teenagers. Parents should not have to worry about whether their kids will be able to get a good night’s sleep—an essential part of enjoying the parks—simply because they opted for a more affordable Disney resort.

The Solution: Build a Dedicated Tour Groups Resort
The solution might seem drastic, but in reality would be very practical: Disney should build a dedicated resort for tour groups, including cheerleading teams, school trips, and international teenage travelers. This new resort doesn’t need to be luxurious or vastly different from the All-Star Resorts. In fact, it could follow the same budget-friendly design model that makes the All-Star Resorts so attractive. However, it would be specifically tailored to accommodate larger tour groups, with amenities and layouts designed to suit their needs.

Here’s why this solution benefits Disney, tour groups, and regular guests alike:

  1. Protects the Guest Experience at All-Star Resorts: By relocating large, noisy tour groups to a separate property, the All-Star Resorts would regain their appeal for families, couples, and solo travelers looking for an affordable and enjoyable stay. Guests would no longer have to endure disruptive late-night games, loud conversations, and chaotic common areas.
  2. Improves Disney’s Reputation for Value Resorts: Disney’s All-Star Resorts have unfortunately earned a negative reputation among regular guests largely due to the presence of teenage groups. By creating a designated resort for these groups, Disney can restore the image of the All-Star Resorts as fun, affordable, and family-friendly properties.
  3. Creates a Tailored Experience for Tour Groups: Tour groups could benefit from having a resort that caters to their specific needs. Special discounted packages could also be offered to incentivize schools and organizations to book these accommodations in advance, ensuring Disney receives long-term commitments and reliable revenue. Maybe even with long-term contracts with year-after-year return guarantees.
  4. Encourages Repeat Business: Both regular guests and tour organizers would walk away happier. Families would enjoy a quieter, more restful stay at the All-Star Resorts, while tour groups would have a space designed with their needs in mind. Happier guests are more likely to return to Disney, knowing their experience—whether budget-conscious or group-focused—will meet their expectations.

A Win-Win Solution for Everyone
Disney is all about creating magical experiences for every type of guest, and this proposal aligns perfectly with that mission. Families staying at the All-Star Resorts deserve a peaceful and enjoyable vacation, free from unnecessary disruptions. At the same time, cheer teams, school trips, and international tour groups deserve accommodations that meet their needs without negatively impacting others.

By building a dedicated tour group resort, Disney can solve a long-standing issue while improving the experience for both regular guests and large groups. It’s a practical, guest-friendly solution that protects Disney’s reputation, increases satisfaction across the board, and ensures that every guest—no matter their reason for visiting—leaves with unforgettable memories.
