Ever since Walt Disney World‘s 2020 closures and re-openings, only one of two water parks have been open at a time.
While there’s no official word from Disney, according to their operational calendar, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park are both scheduled to be closed beginning March 30th. Based on Disney’s previous pattern of keeping one water park open at a time, Typhoon Lagoon will likely re-open on March 30th.

As of November 2024, the common answer from the official planDisney site states “the water parks operate seasonally, meaning that one water park is open while the other receives annual maintenance. At the present time, Disney’s Blizzard Beach is operating while Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon receives annual maintenance.”
Before 2020, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach would both be in operation during the spring, summer and fall. Only during winter is when one closed for annual maintenance, while the other would continue to be available to guests. Interestingly, Disney has not announced any significant refurbishment work that would require either park to remain closed six months at a time. This certainly makes it easier on staffing and operations, as one team of Cast Members can easily transfer between either operational water park. Is there really not enough guest demand to only fill one water park at a time?
This is another common “getting less product for more money” complaint for Walt Disney World Annual Passholders (and select park-hopper ticket holders). Ticket prices are at their all-time highest, yet one of two water parks is consistently excluded from admission.
Disney previously released information on their Disney Vacation Club Moonlight Magic event, taking place at Typhoon Lagoon on May 20th and June 9th — so we can expect Typhoon to re-open in time for the summer! Now, how about Blizzard Beach?
Beginning January 1st of this year, Disney began offering free admission to their water parks for onsite hotel guests on their check-in day. Because of this promotion, I was hopeful both water parks would be in operation come summer 2025. We’ll just keep wishing Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon operate simultaneously again soon!
