Walt Disney World is changing the way the management system works at their theme parks, effective immediately. Instead of having managers in certain departments, like food and beverage or merchandise, the general managers will be in charge of a whole area, such as Fantasyland. The laughingplace.com says “Proprietors would manage each part of the operation within that area. Front line managers would report to the proprietor.”
This will not only affect the theme parks, but also the hotels, Disney Springs and the ESPN Wide World of Sports. Each hotel will now have one general manager, as opposed to the current practice, where one person often was responsible for several resorts.
There will be no layoffs or jobs added as part of this reorganization. According to the Orlando Sentinel, eighteen managerial positions will become executive positions.
Disney said that the philosophy is to take a more holistic approach to management, focusing on the overall guest experience.
