We reported a few days ago that Star Wars: Episode VIII had begun filming, but Disney and Lucasfilm have put out an official production announcement video, as well as letting us know some new additions to the cast.
Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern will be joining the cast for this installment in the Star Wars saga. Del Toro has been saying he was a part of the film for awhile, and has now confirmed that he will be playing a character on the Dark Side. There is no mention of what type of character Dern might portray. Kelly Marie Tran (of the improve comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade) will join the group as well. As Entertainment Weekly mentions, her role hasn’t yet been released, but it’s likely to be of significance since she is being included in this announcement.
Stars from The Force Awakens – Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, and Lupita Nyong’o – will all be returning as well.
