Disney Parks Teases Haunted Mansion x Fortnite Collaboration

The boundary between Disney’s theme parks and digital worlds just blurred again. Earlier today, the @DisneyParks Instagram posted a cryptic message teasing what appears to be the next chapter in the company’s growing collaboration with Epic Games’ Fortnite. The image – stylized in The Haunted Mansion‘s stretching portraits – hints at an upcoming crossover event that could merge one of Disney’s most iconic attractions with Fortnite’s metaverse.

Captioned with “This lobby has no windows and no doors…”, the stretching portraits feature Fortnite’s Peely, Fishstick, Big Dill, and Flakey the Snowbird.

While the teaser offered no explicit details, it represents the first Parks-specific crossover teased since Disney announced its $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games last year.

What Is Fortnite?

Developed by Epic Games, Fortnite has evolved far beyond its roots as a battle game into a full social entertainment platform. It now features multiple gameplay modes, each offering distinct ways for players to engage (and brands to collaborate):

  • Battle Royale | The flagship experience where up to 100 players compete to be the last one standing, scavenging gear, and surviving in shrinking zones.
  • Creative Mode | A sandbox world where players and partners, like Disney, can build custom maps, storylines, and interactive events using Unreal Engine tools.
  • Festival Mode | Introduced in late 2023, this rhythm-based game mode lets players perform music with friends, featuring songs and interactive stages from across pop culture.
  • Save the World | The original cooperative PvE mode, focused on missions and combat against AI-controlled enemies.

Progression is typically tied to seasonal updates (Chapters and Seasons), Battle Pass tiers, weekly/daily challenges, skins & cosmetics, and map changes.

Because Fortnite supports custom maps and content via tools like UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite), collaborations with major IPs (like Disney) allow for themed map areas, and limited-time in-game events.

Disney’s History with Fortnite

The Haunted Mansion tease is the latest step in Disney x Fortnite’s collaboration, which has been steadily expanding since the 2024 D23 Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where Disney formally unveiled its partnership with Epic Games following the initial announcement earlier that year.

That reveal promised an expansive “Disney Universe” within Fortnite, connecting properties from across Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars into one digital ecosystem.

Since that announcement, we’ve seen a steady rollout of themed events and cosmetics:

  • Disney Villains Collection – Skins and gear inspired by Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook.
  • Pixar Crossover – Playable characters and themed items from The Incredibles.
  • Marvel Seasons – Marvel has been in several Fortnite seasons, featuring major Marvel-themed storylines, including numerous Marvel characters and items in the Battle Pass and other in-game events.
  • Star Wars Season – Rolled out earlier this year as one of the game’s largest Disney-era events to date, players battled through story-driven quests inspired by the Skywalker Saga, earned cosmetics from The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, and explored “Tatooine Takeover,” a limited-time desert map designed using UEFN. The event also introduced Festival Mode concerts featuring John Williams’ themes performed live in-game.
  • The Simpsons Season – The current limited-time crossover has fully transformed Fortnite’s map into Springfield, complete with themed challenges and cosmetics tied to The Simpsons:

The Haunted Mansion Connection

The Haunted Mansion is one of Disney’s most enduring icons, with legendary ride scenes and props, and includes its own cast of 999 characters – including Master Gracey, Madame Leota, Constance Hatchaway, and the Hitchhiking Ghosts. Translating that into Fortnite opens a wealth of creative opportunities. Perhaps a limited-time crossover season, filled with haunted corridors and Easter eggs for longtime fans, they could add “Grim Grinning Ghosts” into Festival Mode, or this could be an opportunity for park-to-game unlocks, where cosmetics or missions are unlocked near the actual Haunted Mansions at Disney’s parks.

If confirmed, this would mark the first direct integration of a Disney Parks attraction within Fortnite.
