Earlier this month, Walt Disney World released its 2026 Events Calendar, a detailed timeline of park refurbishments, attraction closures and openings, festivals, and special events. Notably absent from that calendar were two major Magic Kingdom projects that many expected to see scheduled: the repaint of Cinderella Castle and the Carousel of Progress update that includes a new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic. These projects were both announced earlier this year with plans to take place “sometime in 2026,” yet Disney’s official calendar makes no mention of specific dates for either one.

At Destination D23 in August 2025, Imagineers revealed that Cinderella Castle will receive a new color palette inspired by its classic appearance, replacing the pink scheme introduced for the park’s 50th anniversary 5 years ago. The update was originally announced for 2026, intended to emphasize the castle’s architecture just as it was before with shades of gray, cream, blue, and hints of gold, but no timeline was given.

The same event also featured the announcement that Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress will be refreshed. The update includes adding a new introductory scene with a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic figure, alongside other show scene enhancements that will honor the attraction’s heritage. No re-opening date or closure date for the current version was shared, could anything be happening in 2026?

Given that these two projects weren’t included on the massive 2026 calendar, it seems Disney is not ready to set firm timelines for either project. Large projects often require flexible scheduling, especially when sensitive to peak travel seasons, operational needs, and unpredictable construction variables.

In regards to the castle, Disney may be waiting to add the project to a public calendar until the work is actually visible in the park. It makes sense in some cases; early construction phases usually involve cranes, scaffolding, and a lot of things that don’t photograph well, especially when the work is on something as iconic as Cinderella Castle. Holding off on listing the project could also help prevent guests from canceling trips based on an unflattering castle construction photo. But is that the right move? Would you rather know ahead of time?
Either way, the absence of these projects from the calendar does not mean anything has been canceled. Both the castle repaint and the Carousel of Progress update were officially announced and are still part of Disney’s upcoming plans. We just need to wait a bit longer for firm dates and more details…
